Despair Dilemma v0.2.0 [The Poker Update]

This update is rather substantial; it may be worth reading the entire document through to ensure you have a comprehensive understanding of the changes. Listed below are the most substantial changes, though far from all of them!

  • The "Setting Up the Game" section has been organised into a numbered list and changed to reflect new rules.
  • Several elements of the game have been given keywords to make reading less repetitive. (DGP is now ρ, number of players is now η, number of chapters is now Δ)
  • Generic Actions Have Been Reworked! The actions are now Influence, Spotlight, Achieve, Relocate, Drift, and Discover. All of these have been changed to some extent or another so give them a read.
  • Flags Have Been Introduced: This new resource is gained whenever a character is nominated after a scene and is used by a number of plot books.
  • Card Economy Overhauled: You now use a full deck of cards and draw until you have 5 cards at hand at the start of the turn, giving you more options while still containing an element of randomness. Also, Influence has been reworked to fit with this. Get flushing.
  • A New Type of Truth Has Been Introduced: Underlined Truths cannot be contradicted unless you Introduce a Twist. You can no longer Introduce a Twist whenever you roleplay a scene; spend Control or fail an Achieve to do it.
  • Characters Can Now Have Secret Roles! These are unlocked by playbooks and allow for secret information to be kept.
  • A New Death Game Sheet has been Introduced: The S.S. Opportunity
  • Six New Character Archetypes have been Introduced: The Winner, The Mystery, The Charlatan, The Fairy, The Parent/Guardian, The Troublemaker
  • Plot Sheets Full Rework: You now have goals and unlockable abilities (unlike last edition, these are mostly passives). Additionally, they come with recommendations for starting characters to make starting play easier.
